I'll be interested to see what solution you end up with. We use Google Calendar with separate categories for each person's individual schedule, a category for shared activities, one for our band practices and band member availability, and a fifth for gigs. It would be very useful to have it more portable.

I used Google Calendar Sync on my BlackBerry — it is very handy, BUT after a while, I started to notice meetings showing up 2 or 3 times in Outlook, recurring meetings were hosed, attendees were dropped, etc.

I turned off GoogleSync, and the problems disappeared.

I'll be curious to hear if you have better luck.
